Photo Tour: Moncure Plywood Process

Our hardwood and pine logs are purchased within a 120 mile radius of our location in Moncure, North Carolina. When they arrive on our location and are scaled and graded then separated in inventory. They are then debarked and sawn for conditioning and peeling.

The conditioned blocks (103.5” debarked logs) are then peeled on our 8 foot lathe and clipped into veneer.

Our veneer is then dried on one of our two driers. The veneer is also separated by grade and moisture content.

The veneer then moves to our Curtain Coater where each veneer sheet passes under a curtain of phenol formaldehyde glue (CARB ULEF exempt) and stacked one sheet on top of the other to make individual panels. The panels are then individually pressed under high temperatures and pressure at our 40 open press to cure the glue bonds.

The panels then move to our saw line where they are trimmed to either 4’ x 8’ or 49” x 97” and separated by grade. Loads are then either strapped for inventory or move on to our patch line.

At our patch line, panel defects such as splits, knots, wane, and pitch pockets are routed out and filled with a synthetic poly-patch.

The panels are then sent to the sander where they are sanded within tolerance levels and separated by grade. These panels are then strapped for inventory.
